"That's the right answer!"
We use right to talk about things on one side of something. Right is the opposite of left. For example, on our bodies, we have one right foot and one left foot.
- I write with my right hand.
If something is right, it means that it is correct.
- That’s the right answer.
If you have the right to do something, it means that society says that you should be able to do it.
- Every adult has the right to vote.
We can use right when we do something without anything in between. For example, if you drink something right from the bottle, it means that you don’t put it in a glass first.
- I went right home after work. (= I didn’t stop anywhere between work and home.)
We can also use right to mean ‘exactly.’
- What are you doing right now? (=What are you doing at this exact moment?)
