Although the apple looked good, it tasted bad.

Although means ‘in spite of the fact’ and is used to contrast two things.

• Although the morning was cloudy, the sun came out in the afternoon.
• Although most of my friends read fiction, I prefer a good biography.
• The professor's lecture was very interesting although it was a bit too long.

Common uses

Though and even though mean the same thing as although. Although is slightly more formal.
