A footprint is the mark left by a foot, as in the earth or sand.

  • It was a rainy day and the children left footprints on the kitchen floor.
  • Evan followed the footprints in the snow.

A footprint is also the surface space occupied by a piece of furniture or equipment.

  • The footprint of the refrigerator was bigger than the space designated for it.
