A party is a celebration, usually for a special day, or because something special has happened. At parties, we eat, drink, or listen to music. Sometimes people dance or play games too.
- I had a party for my birthday.
If you party, it means that you are at a party, or that you do the things that people usually do at parties–for example dancing and drinking.
- When I was young, I liked to party all night and sleep all day.
A party can be a group of people who are working together to do something.
- There were 100 people in the search party to find the children.
It can also be a political group.

In pop culture
The last day of the year (December 31) is called New Year’s Eve, and lots of people have parties on this day. One of the biggest New Year’s Eve parties is in Times Square in New York.
